The Ernst angle is the optimal flip angle for a spoiled gradient recalled echo (GRE) which maximizes the MR signal for a given T1 and TR. The equation for the Ernst angle is αernst = cos-1 (e−TR/T1). This online tool will help you calculate the Ernst angle to help optimize T1-weighted imaging pulse sequence parameters.
Hint: You may want to use the Parameter Database to find the T1 value you are looking for.
Hint: If you are looking at optimizing the contrast between two different tissues in MRI you may want to use the Contrastinator tool.
Hint: You can input up to 5 T1's for calculation and plotting. They may be separated by any combination of the following delimiters: comma, space, semicolon, newline.
